Many new owners look for funding first. Lenders and funders usually look for something else first: a business that is organized enough to repay.
What funders look for
- Current registration and ownership records
- A dedicated business bank account with consistent activity
- Organized bookkeeping and tax filings
- Documented revenue and cash flow
- A specific funding amount and use
- Reviewed business and personal credit
- A realistic plan to repay
Build the foundation first
Open business banking, separate personal and business spending, and keep monthly records. Even a few months of clean history makes an application easier to evaluate.
Know why you need the money
“Working capital” is vague. “$12,000 to buy inventory for a confirmed wholesale order” shows the funder how the money creates revenue.
